historical cultural and sports centre relies on blueSmart

Just under 20 minutes by car from Gdansk and the Polish Baltic Sea coast lies the city of Pruszcz Gdański with its almost 31,000 inhabitants. A central highlight of the city is the cultural and sports centre with its diverse offerings: from the main building with an event and cinema hall to training rooms and a summer amphitheatre to a cafe and a historical open-air museum. This extensive infrastructure with its various functions places special demands on access control.

Previously, employees had to carry a number of keys with them at all times. The consequences: large, bulky bunches of keys and a cumbersome and error-prone everyday life. Keys were lost, had to be replaced or even parts of the locking system had to be replaced. There was also the alternating use of the buildings by employees, external service providers and numerous artists. Without central administration, this meant a high organisational effort and increased security risk.

For this reason, the operators opted for a new access control system and found the solution in the blueSmart electronic locking system from Winkhaus. In the first step, 28 electronic cylinders, two Virtual Network Hubs and an electronic door handle fitting were installed.

Since then, the cultural and sports centre has benefited from the many advantages that blueSmart brings about:

- Cable-free installation: many of the system components work independently of an external power supply
- Central administration and user-friendly software: access rights can be easily assigned, adjusted and withdrawn
- Fast reaction in the event of key loss: lost identification media can be deactivated in the software. This eliminates the need to replace cylinders.
- Flexible allocation of access rights: service providers, employees or artists can be granted temporary access
- Logging of all locking processes: all accesses are recorded in detail

“blueSmart not only increases the security of our systems, but also enables us to have flexible access management that we can adapt to different seasons or events – all within a common platform,” reports Piotr Pulkowski, Director of the cultural and sports centre.

But blueSmart also offers advantages thanks to the flush-mounted design of the cylinders: “Our components are discreet and almost invisible,” says Wiktor Skorupka, Winkhaus specialist for security systems. “This is a great advantage, especially in properties such as the cultural and sports centre, because we want to accommodate the special atmosphere and integrate our system into the historical ambience.”

Since the introduction of the electronic locking system, the organisational effort has been noticeably reduced. At the same time, operators and employees benefit from increased security, optimised processes and lower follow-up costs. But there are also new plans: In the future, the system will be expanded further, in order to integrate additional buildings and further digitise processes.
